Project Overview

Designing a Unified, Mobile-First Digital Workplace Experience for 50K+ Employees
Nimbl is NBCUniversal’s global employee app, built on the Modo platform, designed to centralize essential workplace tools into a personalized, mobile-first solution. My team and I transformed Nimbl into a branded, scalable digital experience for employees across NBCUniversal’s many networks—including Golf and Telemundo—through intuitive design, integrated systems, and a flexible style guide.
The app consolidates core services such as onboarding, performance management, learning tools, room booking (Condeco), shuttle schedules, lunch menus, emergency notifications, and more. Nimbl’s goal: reduce NBCU’s application footprint while improving productivity, accessibility, and employee satisfaction.

Condeco Book Rooms - Customized User Flow
I always enjoy working with people who have passion, and Sharon clearly demonstrates that in her approach to design work. She is very thorough and helps articulate the vision towards what the design is trying to achieve. As a "techie", I appreciate her lessons on how design fits into the larger user experience story.

Research
UX research was critical in shaping Nimbl’s architecture and feature prioritization.
Methods Used:
• Surveys: Distributed to employees to gauge tech expectations and frustrations
• Stakeholder interviews: Conducted with HR, IT, and department leads
• Design sprints & workshops: Facilitated idea generation and feature grouping
• Experience mapping: Identified gaps in onboarding, booking, and communication flows
• Persona development: Created distinct personas based on department, tenure, and digital comfort
Key Insights:
57% of employees expect their company to understand the experience they want at work
• Only 50% felt existing tools supported their most important tasks
• Employees wanted more personalization, fewer tools to manage, and real-time updates

These insights shaped the navigation structure, MVP priorities, and modular feature design.

Insights & Reflections
Mobile-first is foundational.  Employees expected tools to work on the go, especially for time-sensitive tasks like room booking, shuttles, or emergency alerts.

Brand flexibility adds value.  Allowing networks to customize their visual layer helped drive internal adoption and maintain brand cohesion.

MVP success depends on real needs.  Prioritizing onboarding, IT tickets, and campus alerts created immediate value and built trust.

Experience design fuels digital dexterity.  A unified, intuitive app not only reduced frustration—it helped employees feel more confident using NBCU’s digital ecosystem.

Investing in UX research pays off.  Grounding every decision in user feedback created alignment and clarity across stakeholders, driving long-term momentum.
